Easing visa restrictions can not only boost tourism but economies as well. A study by Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas estimated that easing travel restrictions to the United States would add $90-123 billion dollars to the American economy. France sees 40% more visitors from China than Britain because they make tourist visas (much) easier to obtain. England’s official tourism body estimates they lose 2.8 billion British pounds per year just from the loss in Chinese tourists.
Reducing visa restrictions for travelers can be done quickly and inexpensively, while adding revenue plus jobs to the countries who remove them. Though if there’s one thing that typically doesn’t travel far, it’s ideas in politics.
